Queensland Climate Change and Sustainability Minister Kate Jones says she will decide this afternoon whether new data proves a high lead level reading in Mt Isa is wrong.
The Government has threatened to fine Xstrata up to $2 million for the high air sample recorded late last year.
Xstrata disputes the finding and Ms Jones says she will consider their other test results today.
But Ms Jones says she did not jump the gun by announcing the high lead reading last week.
"We had data provided to me which showed Xstrata had breached their licence conditions," she said.
"I felt it was important to make that information public as soon as possible.
"If Xstrata has data today which shows that it was an anomaly then we'll all breathe a sigh of relief."
