Farmers affected by a bushfire west of Bundarra from 12 December can apply for Natural Disaster Assistance, NSW Minister for Primary Industries, Steve Whan, said today.

Mr Whan said bushfire affected more than 15,700 hectares in the NSW northern tablelands between Bundarra, Barraba and Bingara.

“Assessments to date have indicated around $5.7 million in damage and this figure will increase as further assessments are conducted,” Mr Whan said.

“Damage reported so far includes 13,000 hectares of pasture and 300 kilometres of fencing.
“Three farm sheds and four kilometres of farm watering systems have also been destroyed.”
Mr Whan said affected landholders could now apply for Natural Disaster Relief Assistance through the NSW Rural Assistance Authority.

“The assistance comes in the form of loans of up to $130,000, at 2.56% interest per annum with a two-year interest and payment free period,” he said.

“These loans are for the repair or replacement of property and infrastructure, including damage to pasture and crops.”

For further information call the Rural Assistance Authority on 1800 678 593.
