The deadline for applications for the 2010 Greenham Dairy Scholarship is approaching fast. This annual award provides a motivating opportunity for students across a broad age range to apply for $10,000 to help them undertake formal study or a recognised training program within the dairy industry – and entries close on Friday January 29.
The scholarship is available to applicants between 17 and 45 years of age, and open to family, sharefarmers and employees of farmers who supply cattle to H. W. Greenham’s Tongala meat processing plant.
Applicants can use the scholarship to undertake farming-related courses, or studies associated with any sector of industry that ultimately benefits dairying. Previous winners have been keen to pursue their interests in water and irrigation management, veterinary practice, soil and pasture management, business and environmental management, animal sciences, breeding excellence and dairy technology.
HW Greenham and Sons livestock co-ordinator Adam Pretty said that the scholarship reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to both the district and the Australian dairy industry. “This award has been in place each year since 2000. It is gratifying to us that we are able to assist people in forging careers in the dairy industry. Without the support offered by the scholarship some of these people may not have been able to achieve what they have. Not only would that have been a loss for them personally, but also a loss for agriculture.”
The 2010 winner will be selected by an independent panel, comprising representatives from education, community and the dairy industry, but intending applicants who want to take advantage of this exceptional opportunity need to get onto the details of their submission right now as time is running out.
